about us

Your hosts Alex Obregon and Liz McGregor have over 30 years of combined experience in hospitality and international travel & guiding.  Before moving to Maine, they were the definition of nomadic and spent most of their time split between Chile, Costa Rica and the U.S.  Midcoast Maine captured their hearts and imagination... and in 2007, they stumbled upon the charming riverside camp  in Newcastle that is now their home.

Alex hails from Cahuita, Costa Rica.  He is an international fly fishing, whitewater rafting and kayaking guide. When in Chile, Alex enjoys working with our dear friends at Bio Bio Expeditions Worldwide as an independent Fly Fishing Guide (Confluence Fishing) running small group, personalized fly fishing trips in the Futaleufú area specializing in - but not limited to - what is becoming known as "class V fishing".

In Maine, Alex runs fishing tours on the local waters as Confluence Fishing. He is a Captain and a Registered Maine Guide and truly LOVES sharing his knowledge and passion for fishing at home and away.  Alex loves the quantity and quality of the water here in Maine... the rivers, lakes and ponds each have their own allure. When not on the water, Alex is knee deep in the production and distribution of his insanely good hot sauce - Solsa!   He also has mad skills as a grill chef and a master carpenter. Alex is the brain and the braun behind the restoration of the camp.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Liz's background is in film and video production and also international travel logistics/hospitailty specializing in Latin America.  Here in Maine, she has all the needed insights regarding the midcoast region as well.  In 2021, Liz  published a large format photography book showcasing the beauty and culture of the Futaleufú River valley in Chilean Patagonia with her friend Alex Nicks. In 2022, she directed and produced a short film for NRS about the inspiring all-girls kayaking program in Futaleufú, CHICAS AL AGUA which made its way into the 2023 Banff Mountain Film Festival and 2024 Wild & Scenic Film Festival among  many others. Liz in currently in post-production on her second NRS sponsored short, BETWEEN THE LINES.

Going into their TENTH season of The Osprey Nest, Liz continues to take care of the administration, design and user friendly flow of their riverside B&B.... as well as their two children, ages 12 and 15.

Alex and Liz are hosts at heart and share the finely tuned skill of predicting needs before they are needed;  an important part of  what makes people feel at home and well cared for at The Osprey Nest. They sincerely enjoy welcoming friends, new and old, to this beautiful spot.

The philosophy at The Osprey Nest - or rather, the hope - is to let you fully enjoy the space, your very own space... down by the river.

From Liz & Alex...

"We are happy to share  our knowledge of the area with you, but we know that most people need and want a secluded and quiet retreat. We get it. We want you to feel far far away while completely relaxed and cared for. We honor your privacy.  So, kick off your shoes and get comfortable. It's time to check out (so to speak) and unwind.  So, yea... tap into that slower rhythm and relax. If you need anything, we're here to help. ENJOY!"
