I stayed at Liz and Alex’s stunning place at the beginning of September. This was either my 3rd or 4th time and I love being there. The quiet and the utter peacefulness of being literally on the banks of the estuarial river is amazing. Although I was only able to be there for 2 nights this time, I was recharged and ready to go back home when I left. On other visits I’ve taken advantage of being near the delightful town of Damariscotta, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Hidden Valley Nature Preserve, Muscongus Bay Lobster dock, the Audubon preserve in Bremen, and so many others. On this visit I stayed put, letting the inward and outward flow of the river soothe me while I read and wrote. On this visit I also had a nice long chat with Liz, a remarkably talented woman. See her book and ask about her films when you go.

The Osprey's Nest is our new favorite Airbnb! Liz and Alex have done a wonderful job restoring this amazing camp—filling it with charm, comforts, and character. We loved our morning coffee on the dock, our afternoon paddles on the marsh, and spending our evenings listening to music in the boathouse or sharing stories around the fire pit. And when not at camp, there are plenty of things to do nearby and Liz was happy to make recommendation. She also made sure the fridge was stocked with lots of fresh breakfast goodies and snacks, even welcomed us with a beautiful cheese plate. The beds were super comfy and the shower hot and strong. In booking, I was a bit worried about bugs and the lack of AC, but neither was a problem at all. This place is so serene and magical. It felt great to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and connect with friends and nature—we left feeling relaxed and grateful.

My husband and I travel often and have stayed in many Airbnbs in Europe and the US. Without question, Liz and Alex's Osprey's Nest is exceptional!. It quickly became our favorite Airbnb experience! First, there is the quintessential Maine camp site on the Marsh River just a few miles from Damariscotta, our favorite little Maine town. As for the lodgings, it's the detail: fresh flowers in every room/building; a cheese and fruit plate waiting upon arrival; refrigerator stocked with breakfast basics including orange juice and large jar of delicious berry juice; easy to access kayaks with paddles and jackets; fire pit ready to light and smoors, including marshmallow roasting sticks, ready to go! To add to the fun, we arrived at the onset of a downpour and our welcome included a full rainbow, reflected in the Marsh river like a colorful and welcoming smile. Osprey's Nest is magical and we can't wait until our next visit!
- Cheryl from New Jersey, August 2024
What can we say about this little slice of heaven that Liz and Alex share with the world? After reading the other reviews, we thought " How can we NOT stay here?" And boy are we glad we did! Pictures truly do not do it justice. It is a magical place and Alex and Liz go above and beyond with so many small touches from garden flowers to farm to table fixings for breakfast and recommendations for activities that were spot on. We are incredibly grateful to have found this gem. Thank you Liz and Alex!
- Molly from Texas, July 2024
Perfection. Our love for this place is as old as our marriage- we haven’t missed a year since our honeymoon! It is our favorite place on earth - the location, the hospitality, the beauty but truly you will count yourself lucky to meet Liz and Alex, two of earth’s very best people and hosts.
- Jennie from Massachusetts, July 2024
Fourth stay in three years. What else can I say?! We love it. Liz is so accommodating, kind and responsive. We paddled further on the Marsh River this time and it was so beautiful. It is truly a gem of a place and experience. Thank you.
- Katie from Maine, September 2023
My third stay for 4 days at Liz and Alex’s and I’m just as sad to leave this time as the other two! Everything about It is absolutely perfect (see my detailed review from Sept 2021 😊) . The Osprey Nest is a cozy, quaint retreat that provides a peaceful environment for rest, relaxation and resetting. This has truly become my happy place! Just a few miles away from all the mid-coast must-see and do activities but feels so far away from daily life, you can lose yourself and a sense of time while you’re there. If you’re looking for a comfy, unique place that becomes the destination in and of itself, book this place! Liz and Alex are warm and welcoming hosts who go to great lengths to ensure their guests have everything they never even knew they needed. This waterfront camp is pure magic…you’ll see what I mean from the moment you step out of your car.
-Marcia from New York, August 2023
Every now and then I stay at a place like the Osprey Nest that is soooo good I almost don't want to share it because I want to keep it as my little secret special place! My bestie and I had a beautiful girlie getaway at Liz and Alex's sweet Osprey Nest. What a lovely one of a kind place. The setting is pure magic, all we wanted to do was sit at the water's edge and soak in the serene beauty. The place itself is a collection of small quaint rustic Maine cabins. Enough charm to give that cozy campy vibe with clean updated bathrooms for the comforts of modern living. The main kitchen cabin is well appointed with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The beds were warm and cozy and we slept like logs. Liz made us the most delicious morning smoothie bowls and brought us wonderful local treats to picnic in place. Liz and Alex are wonderful hosts and are so kind, thoughtful and responsive. I highly recommend the Osprey nest and can not wait to return!!
-Jenny from California, August 2023
A fabulous match for us! the setting, the home, location, privacy, the feeling of home- for- a - holiday, the comfort and ease, and the thoughtful welcoming touches from Liz and Alex. Their graciousness of patience when our granddaughter accidently locked herself out! I needed an item and didn't know where to find, they never hesitated, just brought it to us! we'd love to go back! evenings roasting marshmallows in the fire pit after an easy BBQ, listening to the sheep baa gently in the farm across the road. picturesque Liz and Alex make you feel right home.
-Lee from Hawaii, August 2023
Alex has created the most peaceful and beautiful place to relax and enjoy a vacation. The cottages are designed inside impeccably with high end resources to keep you entertained, warm or to prepare a meal. We truly had everything we needed, warm blankets, fire wood, games, and some great travel books on Maine and the area. My husband did not even realize there was no TV until we left to go home:) Our time was spent reading, cooking and relaxing. While we did not meet Alex, the hosts' hospitality is palpable . The cottages provided us complete privacy. They are situated on the property in a way that enhances the view of the tidal river and surrounding woods from the moment you arrive and from every cottage. The scenery was mesmerizing. Every time we left the cottages we found ourselves rushing to get back for the next tide, sunset etc. We are looking forward to a return in the future. You can tell by the number of return guests this is a special place and special host you want to visit time and again.
-Robin from Maine, September 2022
I can’t say enough about what a delight it was to stay at Liz and Alex’s riverside idyll. In fact, it is right up there for the best Airbnb’s I’ve stayed at. Liz adds new meaning to the idea of a “superhost.” From her friendly communication to her local recommendations to the fresh flowers and tasty treats, she made our stay unique and special. She even went way above and beyond: When we had car troubles and had to leave our car for repairs in town she drove in to rescue us and brought us back again to pick up the car! As for Osprey Nest, it’s a truly special spot and peaceful escape. We could have done nothing but sit and watch the river move in and out with the tides all day long and been quite content. In short, we will be back!
- John from Massachusetts, August 2022
The best vacation we take every year- why else would we have just completed our 7th stay? The location, the hospitality, the attention to detail, the joy of this place- it is truly the most magical place and the most magical hosts in the world.
-Jennie from Massachusetts, August 2022
My second time at The Osprey Nest and it was just as hard leaving this time as it was the first. There is no better place to unplug, rest, and connect with yourself/loved ones and nature. The photos don’t capture the charming, magical and peaceful energy of this place, nor do they do the exceptional experience justice.
- Marcia from New York, September 2021
This is our second time at The Osprey Nest, and once again we couldn't recommend it more highly. It's such a beautiful property, and Liz and Alex take such great care of it and their guests. When we first came last summer, it was the first time we had left NYC after the start of the pandemic, and it felt like the most magical oasis we had ever discovered. We felt like it couldn't possibly feel as special the second time, but it somehow did. Liz and Alex treat us with such respect: the proper distance, considering the ongoing COVID crisis, but also with so many welcoming touches. It really is such a perfect getaway...keep in mind there's no TV or WiFi... and frankly this is one of the best things about it. Just bring books, crossword puzzles, and games, and you'll feel so at peace.
- Michael from New York City, August 2021
What can we say? We just returned for our sixth amazing visit to Liz and Alex’s unparalleled Airbnb and it continues to be the most perfect week of the year. From the stunning views of the water to the personal touches to the incredible hospitality of this amazing family, we have found our forever vacation spot!!!
- Jennie from Massachusetts, August 2021
This was our 4th year here— first as a honeymoon and now with our 18mo old. Every trip here is special and we’ve become so fond of Liz and her family and this amazing region. 4 years later and we are still finding new spots and visiting old favorites. You’ll never regret a trip here!
- Jillian from New Hampshire, August 2021
What an amazing place to stay!! It was completely quiet and isolated, the ideal vacation if that is what you are looking for. Liz & Alex were incredibly helpful with anything and everything we needed and the food was delicious!!!!
- Keith from New Jersey, July 2021
This is our fifth visit to Alex & Liz's paradise in Maine. Our fifth!! We've never been anywhere five times. To say that it is the most perfect place on earth is an understatement. Liz and Alex are the platinum standard of hosts- they make you incredibly welcome while ensuring that you feel safe and comfortable in the new normal to which we are all adapting. We feel like one of the gifts in our life is finding Liz & Alex's magical oasis and can't say enough good things except...we will be back!
- Jennie from Massachusetts, August 2020
Fresh baked pastries (made them vegan for us at our request!), beautiful gardens, fresh herbs, fresh veggies from their garden, delicious breakfast foods, lovely views, full use of canoes and kayaks -- what more could we have possibly asked for out of our Maine vacation? Liz and Alex went above and beyond, making us fire pits and immediately answering any questions we had. Loved every aspect of our trip. Highly, highly recommended. Definitely plan on coming back, if only for a weekend getaway when we have time again.
- Deena from Massachusetts, August 2020
My husband and I held our small wedding ceremony outside of the captains house and hosted our wedding reception at The Osprey Nest inside the boat barn. We cannot say enough amazing things about the venue, the hosts, the amenities, scenery. It all exceeded our expectations. Liz and her husband are so accommodating and have literally thought of all the small details down to the bug spray and the baked goods in the morning (which were delicious). Everything was sparkling clean and Liz was very responsive throughout the entire process. Our wedding day was so special, intimate and is exactly what we had hoped for. I cannot think of a single negative thing to say about the entire process. Thank you so much for making our day special!! We look forward to coming back next year to celebrate our anniversary ❤️
- Rachel from Maine, August 2020
We had desperately needed to get out of the city, having not left New York since the coronavirus pandemic broke out. We were looking for something remote, safe, and relaxing, but The Osprey Nest exceeded all expectations in these regards. Liz and Alex created a socially distanced experience that nevertheless felt like a full, satisfying B and B weekend, with delicious, locally sourced foods and delightful, fresh-baked goods left for us. The place is rustic but beautifully maintained, and the location is so completely gorgeous: the place is right on the river, and it's like having your own little piece of paradise. The entire weekend, there was no one else around anywhere up, down, or across the river: just the sounds of birds and breeze through the trees. A great place to read, play games, and sit by the fire pit. On top of all that, there are charming towns nearby that have anything you'd need in a pinch. Communication was also perfect; if there was ever a concern or question, Liz or Alex took care of it instantly, and without ever being at all in the way. We would definitely come back, and are already wishing we had never left.
- Michael from New York City, July 2020
This was our fourth perfect, wonderful, amazing stay at Liz and Alex’s Maine paradise. Of course, from start to finish, it was perfection. Liz and Alex live and breathe hospitality and the Osprey Nest is the most welcoming and peaceful place in the world. From tiny surprises of fresh flowers and treats, to masterful breakfasts and the warmest and best hosts you could imagine, I am counting down 364 days until my next visit.
- Jennie from Boston, September 2019
We couldn’t possibly give Liz and Alex a high enough recommendation. The Osprey Nest is beautiful and peaceful with many thoughtful touches. This is our second year back and everything was as good and better than we remembered. Liz kindly made several reservations for us and we have to say this is the one vacation we take where we feel we eat better than we do at home— truly delicious! Liz and Alex are also just wonderfully kind, personable and thoughtful people. It’s a joy to return and feel among friends. The local area also has many wonderful amenities and attractions. If you are considering a trip- just do it!
- Jill from New Hampshire, August 2019
We can't say enough good things about Liz and Alex and their delightful get-away. They are attentive and strive in every way to make the guest's experience a good one. We LOVED the cabins for their privacy, beautiful surroundings, quiet, and comfort. We will be going back every chance we get.
-Joanna from Maine, July 2019
A truly unique place completely for yourself. The hosts make you feel right at home, help you with all matters from dining to local activities and the breakfast is simply amazing. A stunning place run by a lovely family!
-Monique from the Netherlands, July 2019
Overly satisfied, stunning property!!
-Matthew from Florida, July 2019
This is our third visit to Liz & Alex’s spectacular home in Maine. We plan our summer around a return to their beautiful waterfront property- set with the most perfect views of the river and just a short jaunt away from so many wonderful spots to swim and eat. What keeps us coming back though is the unmatched hospitality of Liz & Alex and their fabulous family. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. From the lovely touches like fresh wildflowers all over and a fire to burn at night to the incredible breakfast each morning, it is truly a paradise and a gem. Anyone who stays here will be counting their lucky stars they booked! Can’t wait for our fourth visit next year!!!
- Jennie from Boston, August 2018
All your “Moonrise Kingdom” fantasies right here at the charming camp that is Osprey Nest. Many activities in every direction, or the option of doing nothing while looking at the river. The comfortable and classic decor gives the space that perfect “I escaped to camp” ambience. Seaside towns to wander around with outstanding oysters and lobster rolls for lunches (especially the oysters). Many local hikes were excellent, as one can expect in Maine. Then returning to the hospitality of Alex and Liz was just the best. They cooked up a lobster feast with homemade blueberry pie for us one night, as well as an Asado cook-out on another. Plus their homemade breakfasts... wow! Totally enjoyable. Hope to return!
- Michelle from New York City, August 2018
What a SPECIAL place! Your own SANCTUARY of cottages - a comfy and large spot for sleeping, a boathouse for relaxing and cooking and a bathhouse that felt like a spa. We enjoyed the views of the water and train bridge and paddles in the canoe & kayak, we even got to see a bald eagle. Liz cooked us AMAZING breakfasts that rival any restaurant and the HOSPITALITY of the whole family was easy going, non intrusive and just the right amount of attention was delivered when needed. It really did feel like our own PRIVATE spot. The proximity to Damariscotta and Wiscasset was perfect. A drive to Freeport for shopping, day trips to Boothbay and all the local villages was an easy drive, an EXCELLENT spot in the Midcoast area. We will certainly be back! 5 stars!
- Kella from New Jersey, August 2018
A truly magical spot on the river, it's really hard to believe until you see it. What makes the space really special are Liz and Alex who are the best kind of hosts. I wish we had more time at the Osprey Nest, I bet it is spectacular in the Fall. A good reason to come back!
- Abby from New York City, August 2018
What a great stay we had! Every detail thought of. Truly a special place. Like summer camp for grown ups with a private chef. Nice nice people. We felt welcome and relaxed.
- Laurie from Massachusetts, July 2018
This has been our favorite Airbnb in Maine thus far. The area was beautiful with lots of things to do and restaurants to go out to eat. Newcastle was a great location to explore this part of Maine. We enjoyed the downtown area and were able to make a trip to Boothbay Harbor. We would highly recommend the Botanical Gardens. The Osprey Nest was impeccable, beautiful and cozy. Their location on the river was breath taking. Liz and Alex were wonderful hosts and great cooks. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a good stay. The attention to detail was evident in their beautiful home. We wish we could have stayed longer!
- Dan from Boston, September 2017
Liz and Alex were the best hosts and the houses and cottages are stunning! It was the perfect trip and stay in the area. We will definitely be back and recommend to anyone. It was beautiful, they were incredibly hospitable, and the location was perfect for both relaxing and exploring the area. Great trip all around!
- Laura from New York City, September 2017
Tasteful, unique, accomodating. Liz and Alex are graceful hosts, sensitive to your unique needs in a subtle manner. Beautiful surrounds, amazing breakfast! Thank you!
- Kate from Vermont, August 2017
Staying at Liz and Alex and their family's wonderful property is the ultimate experience in relaxation, natural beauty and perfect hospitality. It's our favorite weekend of the year and we are already planning our next visit. If I had to recommend one place to stay on earth, it would be here!
-Jennie from Boston, August 2017
Beats any 5 star hotel we've stayed at. Scenic, spacious and clean. Liz and Alex set a very high bar. We had a fantastic breakfast and a thoughtfully sourced pantry every day. It's also close to several great towns if you need a more upbeat environment. We'll be back!
- Alex from Los Angeles, July 2017
Every space was clean and organized with just the right amount of anything you needed for a comfortable stay. The Osprey nest was very hospitable. Our family of four felt right at home away from home, and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Thank you Liz and Alex. Awesome memories were made!!!
-Matt from Asheville, July 2017
I have been writing this review in my head since we arrived at Liz and Alex's paradise last week. My husband and I headed up to Maine for our honeymoon, and because of their unbelievable hospitality, generosity and kindness, we had without a doubt, the best week of our lives. Liz and Alex are the exact kind of people you hope to meet through Airbnb, the kind who make you feel so lucky that they are opening their home to this kind of experience. Their B&B is picturesque- a series of private little cabins on the water, with incredible views from the Cottage, where we slept, the Boat House where Liz cooked us a first rate, delicious and thoughtful locally sourced breakfast each day, and the bathhouse with a fantastic shower overlooking the river. There were so many thoughtful touches- like a beautiful cheese plate greeting us when we arrived, torches lighting our path, a fire pit set up nightly for our use if we liked. The local area is fantastic and filled with delicious food and fun places to swim and explore, and Liz is a wealth of pitch perfect recommendations. Liz and Alex were totally respectful of our privacy but we found that the highlight was spending some time with them, enjoying their warmth and hearing about how this amazing spot came to be. They even put together an exquisite lobster dinner for us- a highlight that I will always remember. It's really hard for me to sum up just how wonderful these guys are, but suffice to say, this was hands down our best Airbnb experience, best lodging experience ever. We look forward to many more visits to the Osprey Nest, you would be so lucky to stay here! We felt that we couldn't have possibly had a more perfect honeymoon and were honored to have it here.
- Jennie from Boston, August 2016
We had a wonderful time at Liz and Alex 's place. The house (4 cabins ) is incredible. Apparently rustic but highly sophisticated. Every single detail has been thought to make the stay a delight. Liz and Alex are such lovely welcoming persons. The breakfasts are gorgeous! The place is absolutely quiet. We enjoyed swimming and canoeing in the river. The tide going up and low makes the landscape changing all the time. This is truely a jewel and worth the money and we highly recommend it.
- Antoine from Paris, July 2016
How do I explain the experience at the Osprey Nest? Immaculately clean, rustic Maine camp over a salt water estuary does not quite seem to do it justice. Amazing shower over the river and comfy living room in front of a warm fire? Osprey Nest is really a quiet drama of a 10 foot tide rolling in and out, redolent of time's peaceful passage. We had a fantastic slow time of reading and relaxing. Waking up every morning to Liz' amazing breakfast. It's a world away from our hectic NYC life and worth every minute.
-Gordon from New York City, July 2016
This was our first time in Maine and the Osprey nest was better than the pictures! Charming, quiet, excellent all-pro hosts and the most picture perfect river to wake up next to. Cannot recommend enough. The sleeping cabin is cozy and has a big picture window. Even though Alex and Liz are right next door, they are the perfect amount of available and invisible. Alex offered to drive us a couple miles up river to put in kayaks which was maybe our favorite thing we did in Maine. Liz's in-town recommendations were spot on and breakfast was fresh light and local (like from down the road). A+
- Katherine from Los Angeles, September 2015
It's too bad that Airbnb doesn't include a 6-star rating, because Liz and Alex's beautiful camp by the salt-water Marsh River would certainly qualify. A remarkable combination of (a) a beautiful location with wonderful kayaking and (high-tide) swimming, (b) thoughtful and always tasteful architectural touches in the cabin, "boathouse," and shower, and (c) the warmest and most welcoming hosts ever. Like the highest ranking in the Michelin Guide, their waterfront retreat qualifies as "exceptional lodging, worth a special journey.
- Jonathan from New Hampshire, August 2015
I cannot say enough about Liz and Alex and their "Osprey Nest"! Liz was always easy to contact and provided detailed information before and during our stay. With that, they were also great at giving you space and privacy to enjoy the beautiful wildflowers hugging the area, the sea breeze under the shade of established trees, the Marsh River just steps away from the nest, and the illuminated night sky of stars out on the deck with the purring of the occasional cricket. We're big city folk, so we really appreciated the secluded feel and relaxing quietude of this little gem Liz and Alex put their hearts into! You really just have to see it for yourself! Oh, did I mention that they also welcome you with a delicious snack/beverage and bid you a good morning with a homemade breakfast? Seriously, this was probably my favorite Airbnb experience yet. You will not regret it!
-Vickie from Texas, August 2015
I knew we were in for something special when we pulled down a long driveway and entered a lush garden by the water bursting with flowers, ferns, birds and butterflies. Liz came out to greet us and even had snacks and lemonade waiting for us in the Boat Barn. The 4 buildings are beautifully restored and decorated, and you can tell that a great deal of care was taken in making sure the space felt comfortable, warm and welcoming. The attention to details like bathrobes, fresh flowers, good coffee, organic bath products and local goat cheese really made us feel pampered and special---we wanted to move right in! Every morning Liz had delicious baked goods waiting for us for breakfast (coffee cake made with local Maine blueberries and peaches---OMG). Alex was kind enough to drive us to Wicasset and give us noobies a quick lesson in paddling, and we canoed down the river back to their property, seeing eagles, osprey and two seals along the way. It was truly a pleasure meeting Liz, Alex and their family. They are such down to earth and interesting people, and we had a great time getting to know them during our 3 night stay. We only regret that we couldn't stay longer, but we are already planning our next trip up there!
-Toni from Maryland, August 2015
Oh. My. God. This place was the best bed and breakfast experience of my life. Liz greeted us upon arrival, provided us delicious snacks and beverages, gave us a quick tour and then left us to enjoy the stunning surroundings. Our breakfast was waiting for us and made for a perfect start to the day, and just relaxing in the 'boat house' (living room & kitchen overlooking the river) was my favorite part. No reviews or pictures can do the space justice. We just regret not staying longer.
-Ned from New York City, August 2015
Liz and Alex (and their beautiful Maine camp) were the perfect hosts for our girls weekend! Liz was incredibly helpful and responsive before we booked our weekend, answering all of our questions about the camp and how they could accommodate our group of four women. She was in touch about dietary restrictions for our delicious breakfast meals and even recommended a few boat companies to take a cruise with in the area. (Sidenote: we ended up using Captain Dana for a 3 hour lobster hauling trip out of Damariscotta which cannot be missed (URL HIDDEN) The accommodations at the Osprey Nest are breathtaking! The buildings are decorated so tastefully and look better in person than in the pictures, which is really hard to believe since the pictures are great! The natural setting of the property cannot be beat. Two of us slept in the cottage and two in the cabin which worked very well, as Liz and Alex setup an extra cot in the cabin for us. The boat barn kitchen was fully stocked with snacks and plates/dishes and the bath house felt like a spa complete with robes! The property has a gorgeous deck with ample room to relax or to dive in the river for a swim. They even let us use their canoes! Alex went above and beyond by loading up a few of their canoes and driving our group down the road to the harbor where we put in near Red's Lobster Shack and then paddled back to the property. Alex gave us a few helpful paddling tips -- we needed them! Breakfasts were delicious and it was so fun to talk with Liz and Alex throughout the weekend. We did not want to leave and can't wait to book a return trip!
